Hello! Is it me you're looking for or am I looking for myself?
I'm writing this with Lionel Richie playing in the background. I've only learnt to appreciate him as an artist later in my 30s. Somehow the blend of melody with soulful verbiage eases the day a bit. I am currently in week 3 of my Social Innovation and Citizenship subject module. It's an interesting subject to say the least. The way Lionel sang about dancing on the ceiling is exactly how I feel doing this diploma in that I do not know what to expect and I'm having fun with a slight anxiety that I might fall down to the ground with a crowd around me saying I told you so. There is an undeniable feeling of exhilaration when my two favourite things, creative sciences and learning, collide in the world.
The best parts of the learning process is reflecting on my studies which this blog serves to do, engaging with my class mates, actively doing new work to develop my intellectual, emotional and physical state, and learning new design/collaboration tools. I am busy learning Miro with my group mates in real time while we are doing our assignment and it is a form of small continuous victories affirming my goals of empowering myself and others through design and education. It is remarkable how intangible thought can materialise in the form of visual symbols on screen and the culmination of these symbols can produce physical acts that can better and potentially change the world. Yes I know tools do not have a life or meaningful existence, however their usefulness can't be denied and through their use add meaning to the world. I guess Lionel Richie would not be a 'G' (Gangster: a relentless person who walks the walk and talks the talk) without an audience, studio equipment and music producers, another reminder that even Gs need community and we all have a place in the world.
