Grey Day 574
Today is the first Monday where I feel slightly overwhelmed and a bit anxious over starting a new study year and balancing work duties. The last time I studied I had no car or full time job so I am lucky. I started work at 6:30 today and I am putting in 2 and a half hours before leaving for class at 9am. I'm very happy because I enjoy the learning environment. This is where I feel comfortable and at ease. When I set foot in university I feel like I'm in my element and I get to play and discover. For some their game of choice is 'Fifa' or 'Call of Duty'. For me my game is Design. The constant use of words at university evoke imagery that linger in my subconscious and stir me on to write, take photos and document the experience. On days like this all I can say is thank God for coffee and wifi. Here is a view of my office window. It's very grey in tones and very urban dominated by concrete and metal yet in this grey collage there is hope represented by the green traffic lights. I'm working till after 7pm to make up my work hours.

Class was enjoyable and fun. I met new people and made new friends. It's great exchanging ideas with people from all walks of life and cultures. I appreciate being reminded that I don't exist as an island and that I am here to add value to society. This is my first lesson in Social Innovation & Citizenship. This module is remarkable and so what I need in my world,...actually this diploma is everything I could ask for. I feel grateful for being able to attend these classes and witness lectures by the likes of Andrew Boraine (Western Cape Economic Development Partnership). There's so much to learn and dive into.
I feel spoilt and privileged. I make notes to affirm lessons so that my brain can get used to the action of capturing information in summary form. Similar to the drought crisis in the Western Cape, the covid crisis, too called on citizens to act for good and change. Andrew did well explaining systems design thinking and how nutritional food can be supplied to communities through means that are affordable and efficient. The link between business, government, farmers, retailers and consumers is complex and I now have a better understanding on what goes into the food chain. It's been a long day, peace out!
